media is now making itself clear to a lot of other 
people, coming at it from a lot of different angles. 
Also, his writing, as you know, tends to be very 
oracular and prophetic and filled with metaphor; 
and allows many interpretations; it’s not a rigid 
setting forth of doctrine, it is more a starting of 
the rabbits of speculation. So it’s possible to take 
McLuhan’s writing and develop it in a lot of 
different directions. I mean it provides seeds for 
stands of theory that sprout. Also a lot of what he
